My whole family unit just beloved it!! Instead of using jar of dried beefiness I but apply 8oz. sparse slices of beef lunchmeat "Budding" and information technology a lot cheaper!! It's funny that the recipe says that SOS stands for "Same Ole Stuff". That'south the dainty version but non the original. It'southward really "Due south*** On a Shingle" and the first word isn't "Stuff". That's what the military has been calling it since way earlier my fourth dimension. Now I'grand the one who does all of the cooking for my married woman and two kids and I seem to be the only one who loves it. I use browned hamburger and a little minced onion and simply use the fat from the hamburger to cook the onion and make the roux. Just sprinkle the flour over the cooked hamburger and onion and cook a flake. Then whisk in the milk. I add lots of black pepper and sometimes a splash of worcestershire sauce. It's good over toast simply even meliorate over buttermilk biscuits. It's basically the same recipe equally sausage gravy but with beef instead. I was surprised at how easy this recipe was. At first i was concerned that there was also much beefiness for the recipe but it turned out perfect! It is rare to find a creamed chipped beef recipe that is thick - this is it! i would like a fiddling more flavor but i dont know what else to add together. I dearest the cayenne but i feel similar at that place could be some other spice that i am not thinking of. Anyhow information technology was great and i would definitely recommend this recipe simply as it is!

I figured out that I have to almost double the sauce recipe. I notwithstanding only use one jar of stale beef, but with more than sauce, it'south not as salty. Though it is definitely something that you can make quickly for anybody to eat. We make all the fourth dimension.

This recipe is K-R-East-A-T!!! If yours turned out too salty, you probably used the jarred dried beef and should take RINSED information technology first. I have been making Chipped Beef for years and I learned from watching my mother. I don't utilize a written recipe but I use the dried beefiness in the jar. My mom ever made this when I was a little girl and I've made information technology for my family for years. I start out with parkay margarine (it has more flavour than butter). This is a good recipe which I used except for the cayenne-I used black pepper instead. But over the years I tweaked it. Melt the butter in the pan, so put shredded dried beefiness in the butter. OK - if the beef isn't pond in the foam sauce, you've washed it wrong. If the toast isn't completely covered in sauce, you've done it wrong. If yous can eat it with your fingers, you've done it incorrect. If you only put it on toast, you are missing out. Try it over your hash browns, or scrambled eggs, or both.

Well, I started reading the reviews and plant that most of them were the same. This is what we used to have in the Air Force and called it SOS but it didn't stand for "Same old Stuff". Spend a fiddling extra and purchase yourself Armour Dried Beef. It makes this a bang-up Chipped Beef Gravy. Chipped Beefiness gravey on toast any day of the week for this bunch. The cayenne pepper is a nice touch besides. I quickly run warm water over the dried beef to remove some of the table salt. I try never to add table salt as it seems to break downwards the essence of this delicious gravy.

Different other "reviewers," I prepared the recipe exactly as written. I used the stale beef chosen for, non hamburger or Walmart beefiness. This is only like my Nanny used to make. The simply thing I did different is we eat ours over potatoes. But boil the potatoes, mash them on your plate. This is 1 of my most favorite comfort foods. I made it for my kids this morning. One child loved it, the other wouldn't touch on it. I used the sliced beef in the packages like my mom did when we were little and I added in six crumbled difficult-boiled eggs. Truly comfort food at information technology's best. Mmm, we love this one at present, and I grew upwardly on it as well. Fifty-fifty better is creamy egg on toast, make the same white sauce but throw in chopped hard boiled eggs instead of the chipped beef. My 4 year old loves it! Or a can of peas for creamed peas on toast. Any of these options are perfect for comfort food!

I just made this for New year's Day brunch. I tripled the recipe and added 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder and 1/2 teaspoon dried mustard. That is how my mom used to get in when I was a kid. It was i of the offset entries to get! Unproblematic and yummy. I wish I could find dried beef without nitrates.

I remember my mom making this on occasion growing up. I did rinse the chipped beef to try and reduce some of the saltiness. I also used kitchen shears to cut downwardly the time it takes to chop the beefiness. This was good but not almost as good every bit I remembered it. The men in the family unit beloved this just I use 4 TB butter, iv TB flour and 2 cups of milk and 2 pkg corned beefiness. I heat the two cups of milk in microwave for a couple minutes and add milk all at once to the roux so I don't have to spend forever stirring information technology.

And don't add ANY salt to this! And to those having problem making white sauce, y'all can mix the milk & flour together kickoff (I use common cold milk, or half & one-half) in a measuring loving cup and add to melted butter all at once.

DH requested I make this. I have to acknowledge I really did not want to but glad I did.I tasted a bite off of DH's plate, it isn't bad and really like shooting fish in a barrel to make. Only draw dorsum is the sodium content. DH ate the whole thing and then that was half dozen,564mg of sodium. I would blow up similar a airship. If you don't have a sodium trouble I would propose trying this, you lot may like it.

Great recipe only my family found that 8 oz of dried beef to be overwhelming. I used ane (1) ii.25 oz jar of Armour stale beefiness and ground mixed peppercorns in the next try. Information technology was a success!! I also took me back to my days in the Marine Corps!!

Upon a review and proposition I used luncheon meat and I would have to say utilize the dried beefiness it would had been much better. The foam sauce seemed to be missing that season that comes with it and that may had been due to using the lunch meat instead of the stale beef. So I would maybe attempt this once more but I would use the stale beefiness and peradventure a tablespoon more than of butter.

I had left over corned beef from a brisket I had made and used this instead of the jar beef. I used the food processor and chopped it all upwards. I made a double batch for 2 teenage boys. I warmed the milk in the microwave first for 5 mins that fashion it doesn't scald and makes it faster to brand. I also warmed the meat in the microwave for 2 mins. I also added a compression of garlic table salt because information technology was too bland for my taste. While the milk was in the microwave I made the butter flour mixture, and when the meat was in the microwave I did the toast and and then put the meat in the sauce and information technology was done in 10 minutes. Very like shooting fish in a barrel and fast and the kids ate it all!!!

We all enjoyed this chipped beef for dinner (myself, my married man, my five year onetime son and 4 year old daughter). I rinsed the beefiness, just I recall that I must have "over" rinsed it. I rinsed every unmarried slice while running the rest of the beefiness under water in a collander. The result was that it actually concluded upward needing salt, IMO. This is my ain mistake of class. :n) the cream was dandy, and next time I'll exist less meticulous with my rinsing. I have made this recipe a couple of times and each fourth dimension it has been GREAT! I similar to add some frozen corn to mine. Information technology is indeed wonderful condolement food. It is incredibly inexpensive, quick and easy. I would suggest ownership dried beef for this and not using the lunch meat every bit someone suggested. It reminded me of the frozen Stauffer's, what I grew up with. I doubled the recipe for 4 people. I used jar beef and drained it twice. Since I drained the beefiness it needed a footling salt. I didn't put in the cayenne pepper. I put in black pepper instead. I serve it on toast.

You demand to double the recipe. The portion of roux to chipped beef is sparse. Information technology only makes plenty for two people or cover iv pieces of toast and the chipped beef is really salty fifty-fifty though I rinsed the bit beef in hot water and let it boil in the roux. Next time I'll double the recipe and boil the chipped beef in h2o before adding to the roux.

I have been making chipped beef on toast for years. I start out with olive oil instead of butter. More healthy. Add flour slowly to oil, lower heat and stir until it gets slightly brown. Add milk and several drops of Wright'south full-bodied Hickory Seasoning (liquid fume). salt & pepper to taste. In the Navy they call information technology (SOS- on a shingle)

This is my girl's best favorite breakfast. She eats information technology once a week. I use the Buddig brand Corned Beef and poultry seasoning instead of cayenne. Over Xmas break used leftover cubed ham instead and cream instead of milk, just every bit good, if not amend.

my mom used to make this and i had been craving it! came out perfect the 2nd time...the first time i fabricated a big oops! didn't wash the beefiness off...i didn't know to do it and it was pretty much inedible. second time around i rinsed it and it came out perfect! so for anyone else that has never cooked with dry beef...exist warned! rinse information technology first :-)

Made information technology tonight. Came out perfect. My family unit absolutely loves it. And my youngest is iii. So yummy!!!!

The husband could not become enough of this yummy comfort food. I used Carl Buding beefiness and doubled the sauce. The cayenne pepper gave it a trivial heat which was nice, add more if yous like the spice. Served with veggies on the side. Will be making this i once more and again.

My family loved this recipe! Such a unproblematic archetype, but information technology was a hit (and So affordable for cooking on a budget).

I tripled the sauce and used half a pd of stale beefiness chipped from the cafeteria. We swallow this when nosotros go out for breakfast. You can put it over scrabbled eggs, fried taters, or the about popular is toast. I liked this better than what we exit, and anybody in the house liked it. Thanks for the recipe.

Just like the kind mom used to make. I used a package of budding beef and chopped it up. I had to double the recipe for my family of 4 though.

Nosotros are beef farmers and dried beef is in the freezer. This is only virtually the only mode we similar dried beefiness. I was looking hither for more ideas of what to brand with it and found that I had already tried them all: craven bake, creamed beef, and overnight casserole. Our favorite way of eating creamed beefiness is either over fried hash browns or waffles. I always seasoned this with a little bit of nutmeg and beef goop and seasoning powder, just tonight I will attempt the pepper.

Good stuff, similar what mom made but w/ an added boot. I apply the beefiness in the plastic bag, and that works fine. I like how salty this recipe is. But, I'm an admitted saltaholic. :)

This is an former stand up-past recipe that I have prepared for my family for years. I apply two packages the Buddig beef, double the cream sauce and add together just a dash of both onion powder and garlic powder, along with salt and pepper to gustation before I chop and add the beef and serve over toast. With these changes, I'd give this recipe v stars. A quick and easy meal!

Had a deep desire for creamed chipped beef this evening. Being just after mid-March I also had some leftover corned beef. Used information technology in this bones roux recipe and it is wonderful. Thanks Lisa for posting. Also my father taught me how to cook very rich and then I used one/3 heavy whipping cream to ii/3+- pure water every bit my liquid in making my roux. Much creamier taste and texture= richer flavor.

I've been making this dish for years, I first slicing the dried beef, them plunging it briefly into boiling water to remove some of the salt, and then saute it in butter, add cornstarch then milk till ti thickens to desired consistency. season w/a flake of white pepper... that's the authentic way to make it!
